Words are solid and it's time to copy continuous prose — full sentences played one after another, the way real CW traffic actually sounds.
Where to Go
Open Text & QSO Training from the launcher and use English Sentences. Sentences are shuffled and played continuously as a single exercise, subject to your exercise length setting.
Settings to Review
- Max sentence length (on the Text Training screen itself, 3–10 words) — start near the default of 5 and raise it as full sentences become comfortable.
- Enable TTS — this is the default posture here, not just an option: leave it on (or just leave HCB on — it ships on by default and has the same effect even without TTS). Either one routes you into the dedicated training screen, which only reveals a sentence after it has played — no separate display setting needed.
- Text display mode — only relevant if you turn both TTS and HCB off, in which case sentences fall back to the plain player screen and this setting takes over. Its default, Progressive, reveals characters as they play, letting you read ahead. In that case, switch to At text end or Chars as played to force genuine listening.
- Don't write sentences down. Recognise and understand them by ear as they play — transcribing substitutes a slower motor skill for the instant auditory recognition you're actually building.
- Exercise length — set a session length that suits continuous copy, e.g. 5–10 minutes by default mode, or switch to a character count if you prefer a fixed-size drill.
- Farnsworth WPM — still useful at this stage; taper it down toward your character speed as full-speed sentence copy improves.
